PROUDLY HELPING TO KEEP KIDS OFF DRUGS SINCE 2009

Opening Comment:    We openly share all of the below details for one reason.  That reason is this child's performance described below by these educators is considered enough of an argument for them to have him put in Special Education, listed as mentally ill and drugged!  This example should be a very stark  tool of awareness to any parents who think this cannot happen to their child.  Our child was not safe!  Is yours?

October 2008 - First Quarter reports indicate Forrest is progressing.

January 2009 - Second Quarter reports indicate Forrest is progressing and exceeding his goals.

February 2009 - Forrest participated in the Nationwide NWEA Testing of school children.  His test results along with his standing in his classroom activities qualified him for an Alpha testing opportunity, a program for the gifted and talented.

March 2009 - Third Quarter reports.   On the 3rd quarter report card, Forrest's teacher continues to offer no comments.  Pay particular attention to the progress grades and comments reported by Forrest's Art, Music and Physical Education teachers.  There are none!  Now, look at the progress report.  He has far surpassed many of the goals placed on the classroom as a whole.

April 2009 reporting of Alpha test results. To enter the Alpha program, Forrest's test results needed to be in the 8th stanine.  His scores placed him in the 7th stanine.

June 2009 - Fourth Quarter reports.  Note, the only "N" (needs improvement) marks you will see on his report card before his final grades are second quarter, January, listed under social skills.  These specifically are "listens attentively" and "actively participates with relevant information".  In other words, a normal kid going through a period of boredom with very limited scholastic subject matter.  Are we defending this?  Of course not!  Forrest didn't pay attention, bored or not, it's not correct.  But, why is there no explanation in the comment section?  Is this reason enough to have him put into the Special Education Program, listed as mentally ill and then have him put on potentially dangerous psychotropic drugs?  We also find it interesting that throughout the school-year, Forrest's Art, Music and Physical Education teachers had nothing to report to us.  They did not meet with us during the Parent-Teacher Conferences, they did not send home notes to alert us to any areas needing improvement and they did not make any comments on prior quarter report cards.  In fact, they were so unconcerned about his progress, that all three teachers failed to report his progress in the third quarter entirely.  Yet, on his final report card, all three teachers had negative comments to report.  Also, note that the 4th quarter report card contains only one "N" (needs improvement) mark given to him in Music.

Final Comment:    I repeat, we openly share all of the above details for one reason.  That reason is this child's performance described above by these educators is considered enough of an argument for them to have him put in Special Education, listed as mentally ill and drugged!  This example should be a very stark  tool of awareness to any parents who think this cannot happen to their child.  Our child was not safe!  Now, after reading this, again ask yourself, "Is your child safe?"
